so I've been sick as a fucking dog for the past 2 days and it really sucks... I'm also now out here in San Diego in an apartment all to myself because both roomates are gone for the next 3 weeks and the best (see - sarcasm) part of it all is that since my car isn't here and done, and Nick didn't leave his for me this time (due to a random act of Douchieness), I don't have transportation except for my own two feet (which can barely carry me to the couch at the moment so even that is pretty worthless)....
Fortunately I have a few games I haven't beaten and want to so I put a number of hours into Star Ocean for the PS2 and I'm finally on the second disk where the story actually starts to come together and get interesting... I would tell you what it is but I can't really say anything without ruining the surprise for the 2 or 3 people that read this that may infact one day play the game... All I can say is that it's Matrix-esque, in a really cool way...
The second thing keeping me sane is the NetFlix account... I just got done watching Garden State (I know get with the program it's been out a while right)... For about the first 30 minutes or so I was thinking about what angle I was going to take to tear that piece of crap apart... Then the theme hit me, probably because I've had very similar thoughts and infact written about them before... I Loved the way they showed the dual meaning of the main character's "Drugged Life"... He was quite literally on happy pills since childhood and walking around in a daze (the seemingly random imagery in the beginning makes a lot more sense later.. Lithium is some pretty serious shit).. and he discovers once leaving the medicine at home, that there is a whole different reality out there and it's as if he was actually seeing something that wasn't there before eventhough he walked through it every day without ever having a clue it was there....
I had a whole rant thought out based on my immediate reaction of believing I wasn't going to like it and comparing the way that people today seem to have this pre-determined notion that sticking to character and theme is equilvalent to excellent writing and should be praised as opposed to what should be expected... and how that seems to me that it's because more people watch "Bad Boys" blowing up cars and crap that serves no real purpose other than to excite an audience (don't get me wrong I like to watch explosions too but not when they just get so far over the top that they become ridiculous) than watch Mythbusters and the FBI actually Blowing up (thats a rather loose term for what happened if you saw it... it's more like disintegrating) a cement truck to find out what kind of explosive force it takes to remove dried cement from the walls of the truck... but it just feels too terse and I know I'm missing something from the original thought (aside from punctuation and spelling)
The long and short of it, I really liked the movie and I thought I was going to hate it... As far as calling it a comedy??? I'm not too sure about that one... but I liked it for what it was... I could easily write about 4 or 5 pages relating it to many things I've seen and known, but I'll spare you the details and let you figure it out =)
